It was a lovely event for a Saturday afternoon. I went for the beer and to see what they had going on for a Halfway to St. Patty’s event. I stayed longer than I meant to and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

The first set started off with a young couple singing and raising money to be married in the spring. It was so sweet and so romantic. They call themselves Kinnfolk and play traditional Celtic music here in the Blue Ridge.

New Store Opened in Madison NC

The thing about shopping in downtown Madison is there is good parking and, once parked, you can easily while away several hours. There is a coffee shop, the Mad Bean, that serves breakfast and lunch, besides coffee. There is a restaurant, Southern Spirits, that serves dinner. There is a craft brewery that serves beer. Add a good selection of boutiques and you’ve got a good recipe for a day well spent.

Paddling For Polio

Recent rains triggered a warning that flow from the Philpott Dam had been increased and the flow of the Smith River would be 800 CFS, up from 350 CFS. The water would likely be a bit muddy. Paddling was not advised for anyone without experience. So, just hours before the scheduled event, the question was “are you experienced”?
